Notes
Tree to 30 m tall, rarely a mallee. Bark rough on most or all of the trunk, often extending to branches of 8 cm diameter, finely fibrous (`peppermint'), often furrowed, grey, grey-brown, or greyish-yellow, sometimes prickly when rubbed in the hand, sometimes with horizontal black scars. Smooth bark shedding in ribbons. Juvenile stems rounded or square in cross section. Juvenile leaves opposite each other for about 3 pairs then alternating up the stems, 7.5-17 cm long, 12-80 mm wide, dull, green to blue-green or grey-green. Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 6.5-18 cm long, 10-30 mm wide, glossy, green to grey-green. Flowers white, with 0 petals. Flower clusters 11-19 flowered. Mature flower buds 3–7 mm long, caps shorter than the base. Flowers Spring-Autumn. Gumnuts 6-8 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have slightly protruding valves or valves that are not very noticeable.
