Using the Query Page Nomenclator

Step 1: To use the Nomenclator to locate any scientific name, whether accepted or synonymous, left-click on the red link stating, "Can't find a North American plant name? Click Here." This will open the Nomenclator in a new browser window.

Step 2: Enter the name or partial name of the plant you are looking for in the "Search name or epithet" search box.

Step 3:  As you enter more letters, the search will continue to refine its query result. Accepted names are shown in bold font. Synonyms are shown in regular font, with an arrow (>) indicating their accepted name equivalence in bold font.

Step 4: When you locate the name you are looking for, you can either take note of that name and manually type it into the 'Species' column on the TDC query page, or you can copy and paste the name from the Nomenclator. To copy the name, highlight the name by holding down the left mouse button and then scrolling over the desired name. Right click on the now-highlighted name and select 'Copy'. Return to the Query page, right-click inside of the Species query bar (where it says "Search for Species..."), and select 'Paste'.
