What is the history of Beecraigs Country Park?
In 1914, the reservoir, now known as Beecraigs Loch, was built by German Prisoners of War by damming Riccarton Burn. Clay and stone was used to build the dam wall, this stone was quarried from Riccarton Hill and brought down the slopes to the site using a winch- powered railway.

The 20-acre loch is stocked with Rainbow Trout and anglers can fish from one of the boats accessed from the main pier. The adventure play area is always a hit with the kids, and you can refuel in the Hideaway Café which serves breakfast, lunch and essential ice creams.
