WALDEMAR KOPS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BRASSIERE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 13, 1921.
Application filed November 17, 1920. Serial No. 424,613.
T 0 allwhom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, VVALDEMAR Kors, a cltizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Brassieres, of which the folment made in accordance with the aresent invention is similar to that of the etters Patent aforesaidthat is the garment. is
adapted not only for use as a corset cover but is so made as to also act as a support for the body of the wearer, the support being provided for the back and side portions of the body as well as for the busts. In carrying out the present invention the garment made in accordance therewith is preferably made in halves which may be attached to and detached from one another as herein.- after described. Each part of the garment also comprises a back member and a front member with the extremities of both members made in a. tapering form and provided with devices for adjustably connecting the same at the waistline at the side of the body so that one member extends around the body at one side with the endsterminating at the opposite side and the othermember extends around the body from the other side overlapping a portion of the aforesaid member and is adapted to be adjusted and secured in position at the other side of the body of the.
wearer. The parts of the garment comprising this invention may also be extended to include shoulder straps, and at those portions of the garment lying along the axillary line I may provide reinforcing strips or stays to assist in supporting the underlying or side portions of the body of the wearer,
it being understood that the parts of the garthe parts placed in position forYuse but in which the. depending front strap is omitted, an y Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view showing the parts of the garmentlaid upon a flat surfape and looking at the same from the inner 51 e.
Referring tothe drawings, it will be seen that in carrying out this invention the garment is preferably made in two parts indicated respectively at 10 and 11. These parts are simllarly constructed. The part 10 adapted to fit the right hand side of 'the wearer comprises a back member 12 and a front member secured thereto which is preferably composed of two parts indicated at 13 and 14 respectively and suitably shaped to conform to the body and connected the one to the other. The back member 12 is provided with an extension 15 and the front; member 13 with an extension 16 and these extensions 15 and 16, as illustrated, may be connected along the line of stitching 17 to provide a shoulder strap for this member of the garment. The back member 12 and the front member 13 are preferably connected along the axillar line as indicated at 18 at which I also prefer to employ suitable stays or stiffener members indicated at 19. The line of stitching by which the parts of the front member are connected isdesignated at 20.
The member 11 adapted to fit the left side of the body of the wearer, as hereinbefore stated, is similarly constructed and comprises a back member 21 and a. front member composed of parts 22 and 23. The back member 21 has an extension 24 corresponding to the extension 15 of the back member 12 and the front member 22 has an extension 25 corresponding to the extension 16 of the front member 13. The extensions 24 and 25, as 1ndicated, are connected along a line of stitchin 26 to comprise a shoulder strap for the le t side of the garment. The back member 21 and the front member 22 are preferably connected along the axillary line as indicated at 27 and along this line in a manner to that similar to the other art of the garment there are stays or sti ening members 28 to assist in supporting the underlying portions of the body of the wearer. The front member 22 is connected to the front member 23 along a line of stitching 29, the parts of the front member bein so constructed as to conform to the body 0 the wearer.
The lower or waistline extremity of the back member 12 is preferably tapered as indicated at' 30 and provided with a strap attachment 31 which is suitably connected thereto. The lower or waistline portion of the front member 14 isalso tapered as indi cated at 32 and fitted with a strap 33 which includes an adjusting buckle 34 and a hook 35. This member 10 of the garment, as hereinbefore stated, is adapted to fit the right side of the body of the wearer and to be adjusted to position thereon at the left side at approximately the waistline. This is accomplished by employing a catch 36 associated with the strap or tape 31 to be engaged by I the hook 35, it being understood that the straps'31 and 33 may be made of anysuitable elastic webbing or other similar material.
The lower or waistline extremity of the back member 21 is tapered as indicated at 37 and fitted with an adjusting strap 38 including an adusting buckle 39 anda hook 40.; The lower waistline extremity of the front member 23' is also tapered as indicated at 41 and at its end is provided with a strap 42 fitted with a catch 43. adapted to be engaged by the hook 40. This portion of the garment, as hereinbefore stated, is adapted /to fit the left side of the wearer and to be adjusted to position by connecting the hook and the eye 43 and adjusting the straps 38 and 42 to the required tension, this adjustment being eflected at the right side of the a body of the wearer at approximately the waistline. It will be observed that in thus fitting the garment to position the portion of the back member 21 overlaps a similar portion of theback member 12 and also that a portion of the front member 23 overlaps a portion of the front member 14.-
As shown in Fig.3, I- prefer to employ a snap fastener or other suitable devlce for attaching the back members 12 and 21 and this attachment is-preferably at the upper section of the overlapping portions of the back member, although it will be under stood that while one or moreof these snap fastener devicesmaybe employed for this purpose the parts of the back members'of the garment may be thus connected by any other suitable means without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention. Also that while the connection is preferably a pivotal one the invention is not necessarily so limited. Also as shown in Fig. 3 the front member 14 may be fitted with a depending strap or tape 45 having a hook 46 connected thereto for attachment to a corset or other under garment to maintain, this part of the brassiere in position relatively to the parts of the corset or other garment with.
which the brassiere is worn.
' From the foregoing description it will be 1 bars of the garment will cause. the same to fit .to extend around the side of the body the body closely and also'due to the overlapping portions of the back members to lend support to the back of the wearer, and due wearer.
I claim as my invention: 1. In a brasslre, garment members each comprising a back portion and a front portion, the extremities of which are constructed to extend around the sides of the body of the wearer, and adjustable devices for connecting the extremities of the said-members of the garment together at the sides of the waistline of the wearer.
2. In a brassiere, garment members each adapted to extend around the body of the wearer from the side thereof with predetermined portions of the garment members overlapping at the back and also at the front and sides to fit and support the body, and adjustable devices for connecting the extremities of the garment members at the sides of the body of the wearer.
3. In a brassiere, a pair of garment members each comprising a back portion and a front portion, the extremities of both of which are tapered and each part constructed to extend around the side of the body of the wearer, and adjustable devices for connecting the tapering .extremities' of the garment members together at the sides at the waistline of the wearer.
4, In a brassire, a pair of garment members each comprising a back portion and a front portion, the extremities of both of which are tapered and each part constructed of the wearer, adjustable devices for connecting the tapering extremities of the garment members together at the side at the waistline of the wearer, and stays extending along the axillary line of both of the garment members.
' 5. In a brassiere, a pair of similar garment members each adapted to extendaround the side portion of the body -of the wearer and to be connected at the opposite side thereof with parts of the backs of the garment members overlapping at the back of the wearer and parts of the front of the garment members overlapping the front'and the sides of the body of the wearer, devices for adjustably connecting the ends of the garment members at the side of the wearer, and a device for connecting the overlapping parts 8f the back portions of the garment memers.
Signed byme this 9th day of November,
WALDEMAR mm.-
