Another crash closes one lane of the motorway

The crash happened westbound between Coryton and Cardiff West
A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a serious crash on the M4 near Cardiff.
It happened on the westbound carriageway between J32 Coryton and J33 Cardiff West at 7.15am this morning. The westbound carriageway was closed for more than four hours as police investigated.
After the carriageway was re-opened at 11.30am, officers thanked motorists for their patience and the members of the public who stopped to help after the crash.
The accident caused major delays on the A470 and A48(M).
There were also delays eastbound back to Bridgend as people slow to look at the accident.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "The male rider of the motorcycle has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales where is condition is described as critical.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 and quote reference 1700413050."

Buses getting back to normal in Newport
The motorway has re-opened but there are still many problems and delays around Cardiff and Newport. Some motorists are reporting that journeys of just one mile are taking up to 40 minutes in the north of the city.
There are also delays on the A467 in Bassaleg in Newport and on Llantrisant Road in Cardiff.

A driver who left Pontyclun to travel to Cardiff at 8.10am this morning has been in contact to say that she is still stuck on the M4.
The carriageway remains closed almost four hours after the accident happened at 7.20am this morning.
There are still long delays on the A470 southbound with a travel time of around an hour between Abercynon and Coryton. This was taken from the Traffic Wales Camera at Coryton
The carriageway remains closed between Junction 29 and 33, but traffic is starting to ease around Newport with traffic back to Junction 26 Malpas Road, instead of back to the Coldra.
Traffic is easing on the eastbound carriageway between Pencoed and Coryton. It is still slow but delays are not as long as they were an hour ago.

Still major delays on the eastbound carriageway. One motorist has reported tailbacks of more than one mile after the Llantristant turn off.
Bus delays in Newport too. Cardiff Bus has also said: “Sorry if your journey is being disrupted this morning - M4 closure is having a big impact on traffic and many services are affected.”
One motorist called to say that traffic on the A4119 heading into Cardiff from Groesfaen is extremely busy and that traffic through the village of Creigiau is gridlocked.
Another motorist said that traffic in the Whitchurch area of the city was almost at a complete standstill.

There has also been a serious crash in Carmarthenshire this morning. One of the main arteries into Carmarthen has been partly closed.
Five vehicles are understood to have been involved in the crash on the westbound carriage of the A48 at Nantycaws, Live updates here.
Travel time is still 35 minutes between Pencoed and Coryton and 60 minutes between on the A470 between Abercynon and Coryton.
Police have said that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Traffic is queuing along the M4 from J29 back to the Coldra at J24
South Wales Police has released a statement on the accident. A spokesman said:
South Wales Police is investigating a road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist which occurred on the westbound carriageway of the M4 Motorway at around 7.15am today.

The westbound carriageway of the motorway has been closed between junctions 29 and 33 to allow for police investigations to take place.

The closure is causing major problems on the A470 which feeds into J32 Coryton. Traffic monitors are showing that travel time between Abercynon and Cardiff is 60 minutes.

The traffic camera at J33 is showing drivers queuing eastbound. Travel time between Bridgend and Cardiff is 35 minutes as a result.
The diversion from Junction 29 is taking motorists along the A48 M.
A motorist on his way from Newport to Swansea said he has been stuck just before Junction 32 for the past 20 minutes.
He said: “We are moving about 10 to 15ft every three to four minutes.”
The westbound carriageway has now been closed back to J29.

The closure is having a knock on effect in other areas. Traffic is queuing and heavier than normal on the A48(M) westbound between the M4 at J29 and J29A Eastern Avenue.
There is also queueing traffic on the A470 southbound between the Abercynon roundabout and Coryton.
Traffic is also heavier than normal on the Ty-Nant Road in Morganstown.
Traffic is also slow eastbound as people slow to look at the accident on the westbound carriageway.
The ambulance service has confirmed they are on the scene after being called just after 7.30am this morning.

The closure is having knock on effect on the nearby A470 southbound, which feeds into the Coryton Exchange.
Traffic time between Pontypridd and Coryton is 25 minutes.
