Video shows huge Somerset gun cache being pulled out of water by police divers

So far there appears to be between 20-30 parts of firearms

Footage shows rusted firearms being dragged out of a Somerset nature reserve in the same location where a number of similar weapons were found in 2015.

The cache of weapons were found in a pool at Grey Lake at Kingsweston Sluice, near Street, on Friday evening (September 1) by Neil Hopkins who had been magnet fishing.

Initially, between 20-30 parts of firearms, all of which are badly rusted, were found in the pool. It appears that around another 20 pieces have been pulled out of the water today (September 5).

In February 2015 a number of similar items were found in the same pool by boys who were magnet fishing.

According to Avon and Somerset police all the items were in various states of repair and badly rusted beyond use on that occasion and the items were taken to the force armoury where they were destroyed.

It was thought that the weapon parts could have originated from various weapon factories which were operating during the second world war.

A police spokesman added: "Suggestions that the previous find contained weapons such as Kalshnikovs and Uzis were dismissed as Avon and Somerset’s force armourer confirmed the badly rusted parts were thought to date back to between 50-60 years and therefore not those type of guns.

"It is believed that this is the case this time and the weapons are to be examined by the armourer prior to destruction."
