Notts County reluctant to make Sheffield Wednesday's George Hirst top earner at Meadow Lane in loan deal

Magpies have not ruled out last-minute addition to Kevin Nolan's squad

Notts County have not ruled out a last-minute addition to their squad ahead of Thursday’s transfer window deadline.

But while the Post understands the Magpies are open to making a signing, they will only act if the right player becomes available.

Boss Kevin Nolan is more than happy to stick with his current squad until January if nobody catches his eye before the window shuts at 11pm.

The club has been linked with two strikers already this month in Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker and Sheffield Wednesday’s George Hirst.

But both of those now look unlikely signings, with Walker set to remain at Forest having struck the winner against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup in what was an impressive performance as substitute.

Wednesday, meanwhile, are open to letting Hirst get first team experience, but the Owls want the club taking him to pay 100 percent of his wages.

But his salary would make him the top earner at Notts who are reluctant to pay that kind of money for a player who has just two first team games under his belt.
