Daryl Murphy is already having a huge impact - what we learned from Nottingham Forest's win at Brentford

More than 250 days had passed since the last time Nottingham Forest tasted victory on the road in the Championship

Daryl Murphy reflects on his first Forest goal in 4-3 thriller at Brentford

It was November 25 at Oakwell, a place where the Reds go on Tuesday, which heralded that victory and not far off a year on, the Reds blitzed four on the road to win 4-3 at Brentford in a game that will live long in the memory.

Here's five things that we took away from Griffin Park on the long journey back to Nottingham...

Away form is vital if you’re to have a successful season

Victories on the road for Nottingham Forest have been scarce in recent years, with just two coming in the entirety of last season.

Forest’s at times woeful performances away from the City Ground were one of the key reasons they endured a season of struggle in 2016/17 and if the showing at Brentford is anything to go by, the travelling Reds fans could be in for something of an enjoyable time.

The old adage of winning your home games and picking up points away is on the money, and with the style in which the Reds play, their game and attacking talent will cause no end of problems for teams.

Their fluid attacking system is a joy to watch and with some crisper finishing, which seems callous to say when they’ve scored four on the road, Forest could have had double that.

It may only be one win away from home, but with a trip to Oakwell, a place they scored five at in November to come, the Reds arrive in Barnsley with hope that they can return with three more points - against a side that's lost both their games.

Records are there to be broken

Much of the talk in the build-up was about Mark Warburton’s return to a club he knows well, one that he set on the path to the eye-catching style of football they play now; there was however something else rumbling away underneath.
