Reading are on the verge of completing a sensational season-long loan deal for Ghana international captain Asamoah Gyan.

The striker, 30, is currently contracted to Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan, formerly of Sunderland, scored 10 Premier League goals for the club during a two-year spell from 2010 before moving to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates.

He joined Shanghai in 2015 and - at the time - became one of the highest-paid players in the world on a wage package of £227,000-per-week.

The Royals confirmed on Monday that Gyan was in Berkshire for a medical with his move to the SkyBet Championship expected to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

Rading boss Jaap Staam views Gyan as an ideal replacement for the injured forward Deniss Rakels.

Should Gyan move to Reading, it is unclear as of yet what percentage of his wages will be covered by his parent club.
