Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson has insisted a new stadium for Everton is 'closer than it's ever been' and hinted over a potential location for a ground.

Plans to develop on Walton Hall Park were abandoned earlier this year but the Toffees are now expoloring the possibility of building on a docklands-based site or at Stonebridge Cross, report the Liverpool Echo.

The Mayor of Liverpool – a life-long Blues supporter – responded to a supporter’s query on Twitter, providing an update on an announcement.

He wrote: “It’s closer now than it was last month and closer now than it’s ever been.

“All working hard to make it happen.”

He then followed that up with a second tweet, which intimated the site could be the Bramley Moore dock, situated in the northern dock system in Vauxhall.

“The Moore the merrier for me,” he tweeted, complete with a winking emoji.

The dock was part of Peel’s £5.5billion ‘Liverpool Waters’ regeneration programme, which was announced in 2007.
