'Everton's Ross Barkley would improve at a BETTER team like Chelsea', say Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman

The former Liverpool stars say the England international needs more quality around him if he is to grow

Gerrard: Ross Barkely would excel at Chelsea or Spurs

Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman are in full agreement that Ross Barkley needs to move to a "better team" than Everton if he is to improve.

The former Liverpool players were talking about the young England midfielder on BT Sport, which you can see in the above video, after he bagged a late equaliser in his side's game against Hull City.

Last year the 23-year-old scored an impressive eight goals and made eight assists, but has been on the receiving end of much criticism this term.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman recently admitted that he is unsure whether Barkley will ever reach his potential, increasingly speculation that he would be prepared to cash in on him.

In the above clip, McManaman and Gerrard discuss the Liverpudlian, and both agree that he has to leave Everton to reignite his stagnating career.

McManaman says: "Maybe in a better team, he might be a better player, and he might grow and he might really excel."

Gerrard adds: "For sure, 100 per cent, if he was to go to a Tottenham or a Chelsea or anywhere else he would fly.

"And all the Everton fans would be saying 'why did we sell him?' - that's exactly what is going to happen."
