Arsene Wenger will tread lightly with Jack Wilshere as he attempts to integrate the midfielder back into Arsenal's preferred line-up.

The England player is likely to travel with the Gunners to Norway for their match against Viking FK on Friday night before they meet Manchester City in Gothenburg on Sunday but another injury set-back could see him restricted to the sidelines.

Wenger said he hoped to have Wilshere, who played against the MLS All-Stars but not in Monday night's win against Chivas in Los Angeles, back "maybe next week".

"It’s a slight patella problem but I think he should be with us on tour on Thursday," he said. "I hope he will, yes."

Arsenal will travel to Stavanger in southwest Norway on Thursday for their penultimate pre-season match nursing a host of players into their opening Premier League game at home to Liverpool on Sunday, August 14.

"Overall I think it was interesting for us because we needed to be patient as they started better than us," Wenger said.

"After 20 minutes we came into the game and we got a comfortable win in the end. It was very interesting to see some young players - we had a very young defence. Overall it was a positive experience for us."

Wenger's positivity doesn't necessarily extend to the availability of his best players however he welcomed another valuable run for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose season last year was ruined by injury but is yet to go anywhere near his potential.
