Elderly care home shut down overnight following a shocking catalogue of failures

A report at Hadleigh House in Immingham, Lincs, found excrement on a bedroom wall, stained beds and two residents who'd suffered serious weight loss

Hadleigh house Care Home in Immingham Lincolnshire

A care home for the elderly was closed down overnight over a shocking catalogue of failures that included excrement being found on a bedroom wall.

Twenty-three residents had to be moved out immediately after a snap inspection also found an incontinence pad on the floor, wheelchairs covered in food and other debris and a leaking toilet.

Four people were found in wet and stained beds and two residents had suffered serious weight loss but no-one had bothered to call a doctor.

A report - described as ‘distressing’ - found the home as “dirty, malodorous and unhygienic” and so badly run that some residents were locked in their rooms at night.

One with dementia fell down a flight of stairs at Hadleigh House in Immingham, Lincs, another left the home unnoticed and was discovered in the town centre.

The home described itself on its website as ‘a privately run residential home for ladies and gentlemen who require care and support, whilst retaining their privacy and dignity.’

But it was shut down over a month ago after a court order upheld an urgent application by the Care Quality Commission which carried out the inspection.

Now a full report documenting the reasons for the drastic enforcement action shows “disturbing” findings at the home where the manager handed in her resignation on the day inspectors arrived.
