Manchester City Women 'Invincibles' celebrate Super League win without losing a game

Manchester City Women emulated Arsenal's achievements as captain Steph Houghton lifted the trophy after a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

Move over Arsenal - Manchester City Women are the new Invincibles.

The Blues came back from a goal down to claim a point against Birmingham City at the Academy Stadium to crown a season without defeat as league champions.

City’s captain Steph Houghton celebrated the team’s Women’s Super League title success - to go with their Continental Tyres Cup triumph - by hoisting the trophy aloft amid jubilant scenes.

The 1-1 draw meant Nick Cushing’s side have won 13 and drawn three of their 16 league fixtures - finishing on 42 points from a maximum available of 48.

They were crowned title winners with a 2-0 win over rivals Chelsea in late September, but maintained their record-breaking season right to the end to celebrate in style.

City fell behind early-on in the game when Lucy Bronze fouled Andrine Hegerberg in the box to concede a penalty.

Aoife Mannion stepped up and put away the spot-kick - just the fourth goal Nick Cushing’s side had conceded in the league campaign.

The champions equalised just before half-time thanks to Demi Stokes but despite a late onslaught, City couldn’t turn a point into three.
