Tree surgeon took this selfie and joked 'it's going to kill me this job' - 24 hours later he died

Mr Daniels had raised concerns about his business partner accepting a £2,500 quote to prune 76 trees in just four days at Hazel Grove Golf Club

A tree surgeon took this selfie from 75ft up a conifer after he joked to his mother: “It’s going to kill me with this job.”

Tragically less than 24 hours after the photo was taken, father of two Paul Daniels fell to his death from same hedgerow of trees whilst trimming branches off the top.

The 36-year old had been “lopping off” the top third of a large hedge of conifers with a chainsaw but it is thought his safety rope was not hooked up properly.

As he cut away the tip of the tree, the branches fell on top of Mr Daniels and dragged him around 60 feet to the ground below.

The father of two, from Cheadle, near Stockport, Greater Manchester who was nicknamed ‘Magic Man’, landed on his back and died as a result of multiple injuries.

At an inquest police criticised selfie taking. It also emerged Mr Daniels had privately raised concerns with his family about his business partner Jessica Chandley accepting a £2,500 quote to prune 76 trees in just four days at Hazel Grove golf club in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Only Mr Daniels, Miss Chandley and engineer Oliver Bancroft -then a trainee who worked on the ground helping aid communication between them - had been assigned to the project in November 2016 - which one expert said was ‘impossible’ to complete in the agreed timeframe.

A jury returned a verdict of accidental death but a coroner called for an investigation into better communication between climbers and colleagues based on the ground.
