Jailed: Men who raced high-powered Audis through town leaving man fighting for life in hit-and-run

Mohammed Usman Bhatti and Nicholas Montgomery sped at more than 65mph through Bolton

Police say the cars were ‘driving in tandem and at speed’

Two men who raced their superpowered Audis through a town centre, leaving a pedestrian critically injured in a hit-and-run, have been jailed.

The pair sped at more than 65mph through Bolton side by side.

Mohammed Usman Bhatti, 32, was driving a top-of-the-range, 400-horsepower, £40,000 Audi RS3 and in tandem was Nicholas Montgomery, 27, behind the wheel of an Audi S3.

As they tore along Bridgeman Place into Bradford Street, just before midnight on November 26 last year, Bhatti’s car hit a 53-year-old man as he crossed the road and failed to stop.

The pair were speeding at around 45mph in a 30 zone at the time of the crash.

The victim was left fighting for his life but Bhatti sped away. The RS3 car was later found abandoned in Sidford Close in Darcey Lever.

Bhatti, of St Helens Road, Bolton, was sentenced to three years and six months for dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to stop after a collision, failing to report a collision, and perverting the course of justice.

Montgomery, of Musgrave Street, Bolton, was sentenced to one year and three months for dangerous driving causing serious injury.
