Revealed: Liverpool's favourite Scouse ingredients

Ahead of Global Scouse Day, we asked you what you include in a pan of Scouse. This is what you told us...

Beautiful Liverpool

What do you put in your favourite Scouse recipe? With Global Scouse Day looming, we thought it would be fun to run a poll on what ingredients Liverpudlians include in a pan of the city's traditional dish.

But we hadn't anticipated the heated debate that would follow. Forget Brexit, the really controversial topic of the month is whether you would add mince to your Scouse or whether it's chunks of meat every time.

More than 600 of you voted for chunks, with only 202 people saying mince.

Echo What's On Facebook page follower Lorraine said: "Who puts mince in Scouse you put beef steak in it!"

But Su Parker implied mince isn't the worst option: "Scouse is whatever veg you had about and usually the cheapest cuts of meat, usually lambs neck... If you had stock great if not that's when it was blind Scouse, so it's horses for courses, sometimes literally horses! ... Hence why mince became a popular substitute due to cost."

Do you put mince in your Scouse?

Interestingly, beef beat lamb as your favourite meat to use in Liverpool's traditional dish. Bad news for cows as 580 people voted for beef compared to 386 for lamb.

Just 91 of you said you include pork, while 81 people voted for tofu.

Facebook commenter Gee Mitchell revealed herself as a Scouse purist: "Beef, potatoes, carrot and onion no need to be putting all kinds in it, it's not Scouse then!"
