Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes believes his club have given Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward “a good platform” to continue his development.

And he admits the Scottish Premier League side are disappointed Jurgen Klopp has opted to bring the 22-year-old back earlier from his loan spell.

Ward was initially scheduled to spend the rest of the season at Pittodrie, but is now expected to go straight into the Reds' squad for Wednesday's Premier League clash at home to Arsenal.

And McInnes said: “Naturally we are disappointed Liverpool FC have opted to recall Danny.

“We were very fortunate to secure Danny during the summer and we thank Liverpool for believing Pittodrie would be a good platform for him to continue his development

“His progression has been clear for all to see and he’s demonstrated to everyone what a capable keeper he is.

“Everyone at Aberdeen would like to thank Danny for all his efforts during his time here and wish him all her very best in his future career.”

Meanwhile, Ward took to his Twitter account to thank the Aberdeen fans for their support and declared himself “always a Don”.
