Arriva says demand too low to re-instate Sunday Runcorn-Liverpool X1 bus service

Company defends absence of Sunday city express service after campaign launched

The X1 Sunday and late evening services were ditched in 2011.

A bus company has defended its refusal to re-instate an express service between Runcorn and Liverpool.

Arriva said there was not enough demand to make the Sunday X1 ‘viable’.

The company commented after Runcorn resident Toni-Marie Kirby launched a petition online calling for the service to be relaunched.

She said travellers must endure a ‘three-hour round trip’ on the 79c – double the potential journey time of the X1.

Miss Kirby said many residents work in Liverpool on Sundays.

She branded the 79c service a 'nightmare' and said it is so bad that she once fainted due to its level of business.

Arriva dropped the Sunday and late evening X1 services four years ago citing low demand.

It remains active during weekdays and on Saturdays.
