A bus company has defended its refusal to re-instate an express service between Runcorn and Liverpool.
Arriva said there was not enough demand to make the Sunday X1 ‘viable’.
The company commented after Runcorn resident Toni-Marie Kirby launched a petition online calling for the service to be relaunched.
She said travellers must endure a ‘three-hour round trip’ on the 79c – double the potential journey time of the X1.
Miss Kirby said many residents work in Liverpool on Sundays.
She branded the 79c service a 'nightmare' and said it is so bad that she once fainted due to its level of business.
Arriva dropped the Sunday and late evening X1 services four years ago citing low demand.
It remains active during weekdays and on Saturdays.

A campaign failed to stop the service’s Sunday withdrawal four years ago.
Derek Bowes, Arriva spokesman, said: “The weekday X1 service is popular because of the large number of regular travellers commuting between Runcorn and Liverpool.
“However, over recent years we found that there were too few people making the journey on Sundays to ensure a viable operation.
“We, will of course, consider and respond to any petition for its re-instatement, but we do not currently believe that the demand has changed significantly since the service was withdrawn four years ago.”
