Boston United appoint 'successful and ambitious' Craig Elliott as new manager

Elliott led Shaw Lane to three promotions and the first round of this season's FA Cup

Chairman David Newton highlighted Craig Elliott’s consistent success as he unveiled Boston United’s new manager.

Elliott has joined the Pilgrims after leading Shaw Lane to three promotions between 2013 and 2017.

The former Glasshoughton Welfare and Ossett Town manager also guided the Barnsley club to the first round proper of this season’s FA Cup.

Elliott succeeds Adam Murray, who stepped down as manager last month after just under a year in charge.

He leaves Shaw Lane fourth in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, just three points off top spot and with games in hand on the teams above them.

Elliott’s first task after joining the Pilgrims will be to stave off a relegation battle. United are currently second-bottom of National League North after drawing 2-2 at home to Stockport County on Saturday.

"We are delighted that Craig Elliott has joined Boston United,” said Newton. “His track record as a manager is second-to-none within the non-league system over the past few years, which has seen him take Shaw Lane to the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division with three promotions in four seasons.

"Not only has he been successful, but has been consistently successful. Craig is a very ambitious, young manager who has a clear vision of where he wants to go within his career and his ambitions match ours.
