Aitor Karanka has revealed that Boro’s new super scout has a network of contacts stretching across the globe.
Middlesbrough FC have confirmed the appointment of Gaby Ruiz, who will work for the club’s head of recruitment Victor Orta.
“He is working in our scouting department,” revealed Karanka today.
“He was working with Victor, they know each other, they have been working together for a few years and it will be in that department.”
Boro have been developing a top class scouting network for the past five years.
With the backing of chairman Steve Gibson, Tony Mowbray began the process, appointing Gary Gill as department head and putting in a place an ultra-modern method of identifying potential signings at Rockliffe Park.
The department has developed into one of the best in the country and in December Orta, a vastly experienced former Sevilla technical director, joined Boro.

Now Orta has brought in a man he knows extremely well to further bolster the club’s network of scouts.
On Ruiz, Karanka said: “He knows a lot of players, not just in Europe but in the world, so it’s an important appointment.
“But the head of recruitment is Victor and he’s come in to work with him. Victor has brought him here because he knows him and he trusts him and they have been working together for a few years.”
Ruiz has most recently been working as a commentator and analyst in Spain.
