Rangers supporters campaign for World War Two titles to be recognised by SFA and SPFL

On online petition has gathered hundreds of signatures after being set up this afternoon.

Rangers supporters are backing an online campaign to have Scottish football's governing bodies recognise their titles won during the Second World War.

The Ibrox club claimed seven Scottish League or Southern League titles between 1940 and 1946 but these are not recognised as the championship was deemed unofficial during WWII.

Normal competitive football was suspended during those years with many players signed up to the war effort.

However the five championships won during the First World War - four by Celtic and one by Rangers - are recognised. That is because, unlike during WWII, the Scottish League championship during the Great War was official.

Now a change.org petition has been set up by supporter Jim Anyman calling that the " SFA and SPFL recognise Rangers Wartime titles and these be added to our count of 54".

The petition states a number of reasons including other clubs such as Aberdeen and Hibs holding their honours won between 1940 and 1946 - the Southern League Cup - as official.

The petition states: "There seems no justification for these other clubs including honours and ours not standing, as well as Celtic including theirs for WW1.

"As well as winning seven titles we also won five cups - four League Cups and a War Cup.
