Celtic fans vote with their feet on League Cup as Raith tie was Bhoys' lowest home attendance for 21 years

JUST 13,591 were inside Parkhead for the tie which Celtic won 2-0 - the lowest attendance since Lou Macari's spell in charge.

Fans were thin on the ground for Celtic's League Cup tie against Raith

CELTIC’S League Cup win over Raith Rovers on Wednesday was watched by their lowest attendance at Parkhead for over 21 years.

The Hoops cruised through against the Kirkcaldy outfit but there was only a paltry crowd of 13,591 inside Parkhead.

You need to go back to the Lou Macari era in April 1994 for a poorer attendance at Celtic Park.

Back then 10,602 saw Simon Donnelly net against St Johnstone in a meaningless game at the end of the season that finished 1-1.

Celtic used Hampden the next season while their ground was being rebuilt and this was their lowest crowd since then.

The League Cup has proved to be hugely unpopular with the Hoops fans.

Three years ago they had gates of 14,399 against St Johnstone and 14,737, also against Raith Rovers, in the tournament.
