SEC Armadillo evacuated as fire breaks out and smoke seen 'billowing from the building'

Fire crews were called to the venue just before 6pm on Saturday night, with singer Russell Watson tweeting about it.

The SEC Armadillo has been evacuated after a fire broke out at the venue.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Services confirmed they were called to the scene just before 6pm on Saturday night.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Services said: "We are in attendance and there are several appliances".

Classical singer Russell Watson, who is due to perform at the arena formerly known as the Clyde Auditorium later on Saturday night, told of the evacuation on Twitter:

Emergency services remain in the area while the full extent of the fire is assessed, however initial reports suggest the fire has now been contained to the inside of the building.

Meanwhile the Russell Watson show has been cancelled, with early concert-goers turned away and told that they will be given a full refund for their tickets.
