And now Carrie Fisher's pet dog Gary has 'tweeted' a heartbreaking response to the actress's death on Tuesday.
'Saddest tweets to tweet. Mommy is gone. I love you @carrieffisher,' Gary 'tweeted'.

On Wednesday, the post had already garnered 62,000 'likes' and more than 31,000 retweets.
Gary also 'posted' a snapshot of himself looking out of a window, seemingly waiting for the star's return after she was hospitalised after suffering an apparent heart attack on a flight from London Heathrow to LAX on Christmas Eve.

'I'll be waiting right here mommy,' #CarrieFisher @carrieffisher #princessleia,' the post read. It was then retweeted after news of her death broke with the caption: 'I'll still be waiting for you.'
The French bulldog became so synonymous with the actress that he acquired his own Twitter and Instagram accounts, although it is unclear who runs them.
'Gary' also posted a montage of photos showing himself with the star, alongside the caption: 'I was always by your side but best of all you were always by mine. #RIPCarrie.'
Carrie acquired Gary as a therapy dog to help her with her bipolar disorder.
'Gary is mental also,' she once told The Herald Tribune. 'My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart. Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down. He’s anxious when he’s away from me.'
Gary will now apparently be cared for by Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd.
TMZ reports that it was Carrie's wish that Billie take care of her pet, should anything happen to her.
However, Billie wants to ensure Gary gets along with her own French bulldog Tina and that she's 'able to handle the added responsibility.'
Whatever happens, the dog will remain in the family, report the website.
Carrie passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, four days after being rushed to UCLA Medical Centre for treatment.
Her death was announced via statement from family spokesman Simon Halls.
'It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.'
