A few players even stopped to sign autographs for supporters who had waited to see the Premier League champions-elect arrive.

One player who could not be seen arriving on Wednesday morning was Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, who will miss the first leg through injury.

Guardiola confirmed he will play no part due to an ongoing knee problem but hinted Aguero could return in time to face rivals Manchester United in the potential Premier League title-winning game at the weekend.

City and Liverpool renew their fierce rivalry in European competition after a pair of thrilling domestic fixtures so far this season.

City thrashed the Reds 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in September, before Jurgen Klopp's side became the first — and so far only — team to beat Guardiola's side in the 2017-18 Premier League with a thrilling 4-3 victory on home soil in January.
