BIRMINGHAM CITY AND MILLWALL FANS CAUGHT UP IN "RIOT" IN SOUTH LONDON - CLAIM ONLOOKERS

Birmingham City's match against Millwall was marred by trouble ahead of the game with fans said to have clashed in scenes described as "madness" and a "riot" by onlookers on social media.

The trouble was caught on cameras around the London Bridge area with people taking to social media to condemn fans for their actions.

Footage and photos posted online show police officers appearing to be shoved as they surround fans during a "stand-off" between rival supporters near the station in south London.

The events took place before the televised game in which Steve Cotterill's men look to build on victory against Cardiff City with another three points.

Witnesses stated that alcohol containers were thrown, smoke was in the air and a number of people were detained while fans taunted each other under a heavy police presence.

One Twitter user wrote: "Madness at London Bridge today. OMG. #PoliceDogs #CityPolice had to get involved. It looked like a riot to me."
