Ex-BBC WM presenters Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer charged with child sex offences

High-profile couple are among Midlands' best-known radio hosts

Tony Wadsworth and his wife Julie Mayer.

Two of the Midlands’ best-known radio presenters have been charged with child sex offences.

Married couple Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer face allegations involving four children.

The pair previously presented Birmingham-based BBC WM’s breakfast show and afternoon drive-time slot.

Julie Mayer is married to fellow radio presenter Tony Wadsworth.

They also had a late-night programme, broadcast throughout the wider Midlands.

The Wadsworths most recently worked for BBC Leicester but in January it was reported they were off air dealing with “personal issues”.

Fans of the presenters, as well as well-wishers and other listeners, had been asking where they were and expressing concern for them.

Warwickshire Police said Wadsworth, 68, of Old Mill Road, Broughton Astley, Leicestershire, had been charged with five counts of inciting a boy under the age of 16 to commit an act of gross indecency.
