Benchmark Shows LG G3 Being Tested With Android 7.0 Nougat

Back when it originally hit the market in mid-2014, the LG G3 was hailed as a great device. In fact, it’s still perfectly serviceable today and many consumers are continuing to enjoy the benefits of LG’s (more than) two-year-old phablet. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is well-aware of that fact and it seems that the company is getting ready to send a huge message of gratitude to all of the G3 owners worldwide. Namely, a recent Geekbench listing suggests that LG is testing the new Android 7.0 Nougat on the G3. That’s right, a device which initially launched with Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), got upgraded to Android 5.0 and 5.1 (Lollipop) and then got upgraded again to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) could soon be on the receiving end of its fourth major Android update.

The Geekbench test scores the device’s single-core performance at 929 points while its multi-core performance is ranked at 2977 points. It generally seems to handle Android Nougat rather well given the two-year-old hardware that’s powering it. If LG really does end up updating the G3 to Nougat, then it would act as further evidence that LG is looking to push as many of its Android devices up to Nougat as possible. After all, the South Korean company is also responsible for the LG V20, which was the first smartphone to launch with Nougat pre-installed. Regardless of that, this basically would lend support to the assumption that the LG G4 and LG G5 will also be receiving an upgrade to Nougat in due course. LG will hopefully make an official announcement on the matter soon.

In case you were recently considering purchasing a used LG G3 for whatever reason, you can certainly do much worse when buying a smartphone released in 2014. The G3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core system-on-chip clocked at 2.5 GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU, and 2GB/3GB of RAM. The phone also boasts 16GB/32GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. The display is definitely the strongest suit of the G3 seeing how the device is equipped with a 5.5-inch 2K screen boasting a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels, which is even comparable to modern devices.
