The highly anticipated Christmas parade and festive lights switch-on is nearly here in Swansea.

The annual event sees people flock to the city centre from across the county to line the streets for a night of colour, music and dancing.

Scores of people descended on the streets of Swansea last year, however the event was met with criticism and labelled one of the 'worst ever' Christmas parades .

At the time leader of Swansea Council , Rob Stewart assured everyone that the council "will get it right next year".

Here's everything you need to know about the parade.

What will be happening?

Swansea Council’s Special Events team – which is behind the annual Wales Airshow - is organising the free event.

Marching bands, magical floats, festive film characters, Christmas inflatables and of course Santa and his sleigh, will all be making an appearance this year.

Belle and the Beast, light-up reindeers and winter wonderland magical giant birds will be joining a cast of hundreds.

The princess carriage, characters from the much-loved musical Frozen plus a cast of community volunteers will all be taking to city centre streets.

There will also be the return of Spark! A street theatre show from 2017 which will be combining a high-impact drumming routine with kaleidoscopic lighting design.

Hundreds of young people from Swansea drama and dance groups will also be taking part in this year's city centre Christmas parade.
