Victim of suspected murder in New Tredegar named

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder

The man found dead at a house in New Tredegar has been named.

The 54-year-old local man was found at an address in Long Row, in the Elliots Town area of New Tredegar, on Saturday, August 4.

He has now been named by Gwent Police as David Gaut.

Two two-storey terraced homes, owned by Caerphilly council, have been cordoned off and police officers are patrolling the area. Residents have spoken of their fears for their safety.

A large police presence remains in New Tredegar as officers investigate the suspected murder.

Two men, aged 23 and 51 from the New Tredegar area and a 47-year-old man from the Aberbargoed area have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Long Row is made up of a series of terraced houses with a communal area for hanging washing.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said the 54-year-old man had only lived on the road for around six weeks.

They said: "It used to be just old age pensioners and disabled people but about two months ago they started to move in other people.

"I don't feel safe to stay here. I'd like to move unless they do something about it.

"We have a school at the end of the road 100 yards away."
