As the number of coronavirus-infected cases continues to rise globally, people are spending anxious days at home and in office. The outbreak has triggered panic in many countries with reports of fights and long queues at convenience stories.

While privileged people still have the comfort of homes and can self isolate themselves, its the vulnerable lot of the society that must face the true wrath of the outbreak. Homeless communities around the world need more help as they already face countless challenges on the streets, especially during winters.

They are now facing a shortage of food and other supplies at a time when even privileged people are finding it difficult to acquire goods from the market. But in the UK, scores of volunteers are now handing out packs of supplies to the homeless community amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Jorawar Singh Rathour, the co-founder of the London Homeless Welfare Team (LHWT), has put together a team to distribute supplies to homeless people in London. He plans to roll out the scheme to other parts of the UK soon.

The volunteers of the organisation are distributing sanitary products, soaps, water bottles, tissue packs along with information on how to protect oneself from the virus.

The volunteers have even set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the project. According to reports, they have raised more than  £2,620 and their target is £5,000. "We recently initiated a project; distributing health packs for the homeless to help stop the spreading of Coronavirus. In this health packs contained information about how to protect yourself and included NHS advice on washing hands with symptoms of the virus. Also included: soaps, tissue packs, and water bottles," Jorawar wrote on the GoFundMe page.

On Facebook, the organisation wrote that they have plans to start distributing supplies across the UK in the next few days. They also urged people to help the homeless and other vulnerable communities.

"We wanted to say a MASSIVE HEARTFELT THANK YOU to all that have supported us and are donating to help with our hand wash initiative helping to prevent the spread of Coronavirus amongst the homeless community," London Homeless Welfare Team wrote on Facebook.
