Man viciously assaulted by gang with baseball bats outside row of shops in Coolcock as gardai launch probe
COPS are hunting for a gang of men who attacked another man with baseball bats as he pulled up outside a row of shops.
The victim was badly beaten in the incident in Kilmore, Coolock, at 8.40pm on Wednesday night.
He was taken to Beaumont Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident happened in front of a number of people and there were unconfirmed reports that a firearm was discharged.
Investigators are probing if the attack is linked to the ongoing Drogheda criminal feud.
A source said: “The man was followed and set up upon by about seven lads as he went to get out of his car.
“He’s very lucky because they could have done some serious damage but it happened in front of a number of people on a residential street.
“Some witnesses say a gun was fired but this is still being investigated.”
The man was parking his car in front of a Centra shop in Kilmore when he was rammed by two other vehicles, who had been following behind.
ATTACK
Up to seven men jumped out and attacked the driver and smashed up his car.
Locals phoned the gardai and an ambulance, which arrived within minutes but the men had fled the scene.
The garda helicopter was also dispatched to the area but the suspects managed to escape.
One of the major players in the Drogheda feud lives in the area and gardai believe the attack could be linked.
Officers were hoping to speak to the victim in hospital yesterday (Thurs).
