Carry On actress Fenella Fielding in critical condition after suffering a severe stroke
CARRY On Screaming actress Fenella Fielding is in a critical condition after experiencing a “severe stroke”.
The movie star, 90, was forced to cancel an appearance at the Darlington Film Club to read extracts from her autobiography, Do You Mind If I Smoke, after being taken ill.
And her biographer and friend Simon McKay has now revealed that it is unknown whether she will fully recover.
In a statement released on behalf of her family, he said: “It is with great shock and sadness that we announce Miss Fenella Fielding OBE has probably made her last stage appearance.
“At the weekend, she experienced a severe stroke.
At this time it is unclear what level of recovery might be possible, but we want to reassure you she is in good spirits.
“She has first rate care and is surrounded with love.”
Simon added: “In recent years, constantly, she has told me how happy working has made her and ‘can we just keep going please’.
Sadly, it now looks unlikely that we can continue. I remain by her side.”
Fenella is best known for her appearances in two Carry On blockbusters - Carry On Regardless and Carry On Screaming.
