Demi Lovato ‘stable and awake in hospital following suspected drug overdose’
DEMI Lovato is awake and in a stable condition after being hospitalised following a suspected drug overdose, according to US reports.
Sources told TMZ that Demi, 25, was found unconscious on Tuesday and taken to a medical centre in Los Angeles.
A representative for the pop star has told the website that Demi is now awake and is being supported by her loved ones.
The spokesperson said: "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.
"Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy."
According to reports, Demi's aunt Karissa Dunn previously revealed the star was "awake and responsive" in a now deleted social media post and her mum Dianna De La Garzia was by her bedside.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Demi was treated with Narcan, which is an emergency medication used to reverse the effects of drug overdoses.
Initially, these sources told TMZ that Demi had overdosed on heroin, but other sources said to be close to the singer have suggested to TMZ that this is not the case. In 2016, Demi opened up about her struggles with drugs to American Way magazine and said she "self-medicated with [prescription drug] Oxycontin, cocaine and alcohol."
According to UsWeekly, Narcan was kept on hand at her home "in case something like this happened".
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman has confirmed that officers were called to an address in Hollywood at around 11am local time on Tuesday.
They said the patient, a 25-year-old female, was in the process of being taken to hospital when they arrived and is in a stable condition.
Police cannot confirm the identity of the patient, the spokesman said.
TMZ reported Lovato was uncooperative when paramedics asked her what she had taken.
They also reported that the singer appeared happy as she celebrated a friend's birthday in West Hollywood on Monday evening.
The Camp Rock actress, who has battled with substance abuse for a number of years, was seen on stage just two days ago at the California Mid-State Fair.
During her performance she forgot the words to her song Sober , a song which was recently written to reveal she had broken her six years sobriety.
In the track she is supposed to sing: "Mama, I'm so sorry I'm not sober anymore/ And daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor/ And I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again/ I wanna be a role model, but I'm only human."
She admitted on stage that she had forgotten the lyrics to the particularly poignant track.

Last month, Demi marked the release of the song by having the word "free" tattooed on her little finger.
Just 11 days before the suspected drug overdose, Demi was pictured staggering out of a nightclub in Los Angeles.
She was being held up by a group of friends as she left the city's Warwick venue as she looked unsteady on her feet.
The Sun Online has since exclusively revealed that Demi has been struggling since her split from boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama two years ago.
Their six-year romance came to an end in 2016, and insiders have told us Demi never quite got over the break-up and has fallen back into old habits.
The singer's upcoming concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey, this Thursday has been cancelled.
She was also due to appear in last night's episode of US TV show Beat Shazam, but TV bosses at Fox pulled the show and replaced it with another instalment.
She is believed to have filmed the show back in December.
A rep told TMZ: "In light of recent reports, we have decided to replace the episode of BEAT SHAZAM with another all-new episode.
"Our thoughts go out to Demi and her family."
In June of this year Demi was forced to cancel shows in London and Birmingham after falling ill with swollen vocal chords.
Following the news that Demi had been rushed to hospital, Ariana Grande sent her support, writing:
"i love u @ddlovato."
She was swiftly followed by hundreds of other stars, who wanted to wish her well.
Demi has been very open about her battles with addiction and emotionally celebrated her six year milestone during a concert in March.
Last year the former Disney star revealed she feared she had overdosed on drugs when she relapsed during her stint in rehab.
She checked into a rehabilitation centre in 2010 to help her overcome her battle with substance abuse.
But she later admitted she wasn’t “ready to get sober”, which saw her smuggle drugs around with her.
Speaking openly about her struggle on her new documentary titled Simply Complicated, the ‘Heart Attack’ artist said: “I wasn't working my program, I wasn't ready to get sober. I was sneaking [cocaine] on planes, I was sneaking it in bathrooms, sneaking it throughout the night … I went on a bender of like, two months where I was using daily."
And the star has revealed there even came a point where she feared for her life after she took a "bunch" of cocaine.
She explained: "There was one night when I used a bunch of coke and I popped a few Xanax bars, and I began to choke a little bit. My heart started racing, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, I might be overdosing right now’.”
The Sorry Not Sorry hitmaker has admitted she was still taking drugs when she had a “sober companion” and would “fake” her tests.
She continued: “I was using while I had a sober companion. And I went through about 20 different sober companions.
“I would sneak out and get drugs, I would fake my drug tests with other people's pee.”
