Barnsley chief Paul Conway has £13.4m bid for Spanish side Real Valladolid rejected
BARNSLEY chief Paul Conway has failed in a bid to expand his football empire into Spain.
The current owners of Real Valladolid have rejected an offer of £13.4m for the club.
Real Valladolid are currently, like the Tykes, in the second tier of their domestic football.
Conway and business partner Grace Hung are part of the consortium, led by Chinese billionaire Chien Lee.
The consortium, which also includes Moneyball pioneer Billy Beane, completed a takeover at Championship side Barnsley in December.
Lee and Conway, the Tykes' co-chairmen, are also involved at Ligue 1 club Nice, where Conway is a director and Lee is chairman.
Meanwhile, Barnsley head coach Jose Morais is confident his team can maintain a decent run of form when they travel to second-placed Cardiff City on Tuesday.
The Yorkshire club have picked up four points in their last two away games at Birmingham City and Hull City, which has seen Morais’ side climb out of the bottom three.
