And The Times claims that Southgate's contract includes a bonus payment for qualification.

His £3million salary could potentially rise to £4m if England meet all of The FA's performance targets, according to the report.

Southgate is under contract until 2020 after agreeing to replace Sam Allardyce in November.

His tenure has seen England thrive in qualification with six wins and two draws from eight matches.

But the Three Lions have looked off the pace against top opposition in friendlies.

Both France and Germany have beaten Southgate's side and exposed tactical flaws.

But The FA will continue to look to playing world-class opposition in preparation for Russia.

Friendly clashes are being lined up with Germany, Brazil, Italy and Holland to get the Three Lions ready.

In addition, England legend and SunSport columnist Alan Shearer was asked by former team-mate Southgate to pass on his advice for staying at the top.

Southgate said: “We’ve done this a couple of times now. John Barnes came to speak with them in June.

"I think it’s really valuable for the players to hear the experiences of former England internationals - their pride and sense of connection to the shirt, some of the lessons, things they would do differently, the reason they thought certain campaigns were successful and others weren’t.

“And for the guys to appreciate that being in the team now is a great honour but you’re just one of the many people that have worn the shirt."
