And according to the Mail, she is actively looking to see if there is a club in the top flight that would be vulnerable to a takeover on behalf of her investors.

Staveley is one of Britain's top financiers, and is now in charge of huge pot of sovereign wealth she is charged with investing on behalf of her backers.

And buying a Premier League club is one of her main targets, having previously been heavily involved in takeover deals at two clubs in the past.

Just a year ago her PCP Capital Partners group were part of a joint bid with Chinese group Everbright looking to take a share in Liverpool.

That approach was eventually rejected by Liverpool's American owners Fenway Sports Group.

And Staveley was heavily involved in the negotiations which saw Sheik Mansour complete his takeover of Manchester City from Thaksin Shinawatra.

The ownership of the biggest clubs in England appears to be locked down at present, but there are a clutch of sides just below them who would seem ripe for investment.

Newcastle remains one of the biggest clubs in the country due to the massive fan-base, and size of the stadium at St James' Park.

West Ham is another that would be of interest to potential buyers, given their London location and their new home in the Olympic Park.
