LEICESTER CITY have reportedly made an enquiry for Everton star James McCarthy.

But Craig Shakespeare could be forced to look elsewhere after the Toffees slapped a £25million price-tag on the out-of-favour midfielder.

The Daily Mail claims Leicester have made an approach for McCarthy despite splashing the cash on Sevilla ace Vicente Iborra.

Nampalys Mendy looks set to leave the King Power Stadium after a woeful debut season.

And Everton's McCarthy has been identified as a potential replacement after a number of run-ins with Ronald Koeman.

The 26-year-old spent most of the last campaign in the physio's room with various injuries.

But McCarthy continued to put his body on the line for Ireland boss Martin O’Neill, incurring the wrath of Koeman on several occasions.

The January signing of Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United saw McCarthy’s stock fall even further, with Idrissa Gueye also considered first-choice at Goodison Park.

But despite serious question marks surrounding his future, Everton are apparently demanding a staggering £25m to let him leave.

That figure has already seen the likes of Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Brom take a step back from McCarthy.

His contract doesn’t expire until 2020 and the Toffees are more than prepared to play hardball over his future as they expect to sell Ross Barkley before the new term begins.
