He has been linked with a blockbuster move for the Argentinian legend several times in the past.

The thought of Messi ever playing for another European side other than Barca seemed impossible for years.

However, the 33-year-old seems to be growing unhappier at the Catalans with each passing month.

And that appears to have intensified after they missed out on the LaLiga title to bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Now Cityzens are dreaming of seeing the forward in their attack after Man City TV presenter Natalie Paweleck pointed out the interesting development on Instagram via her story.

She highlighted Messi had begun following the club, plus City’s own striking legend Sergio Aguero and defender Nicolas Otamendi.

It comes after he slammed Barcelona as “weak” and “erratic” following their 2-1 home defeat to Osasuna last night - a result that crowned Madrid champs.

He said: "We didn't want to end the season like this but it represents how the season has gone.

"We were a very erratic, very weak, low-intensity team. We lost a lot of points and today's game is a summary of the season.

"We have to be self-critical. Starting with the players but doing a global self-criticism.

"We are Barca and we have to win everything.

"We can't look at Madrid. Madrid have done their job, but we have helped them a lot."

Fans believe the Insta move could be a sign of something big.

And they took to social media themselves to speculate.

However, other fans were quick to point out that he had in fact been following City for some time.

And they were not the only English side he appears to have an interest in.

Messi also follows Chelsea as well.
