Holly Willoughby, Michelle Heaton and Sophie Wessex back scheme to plant trees for every child in the UK
ECO warriors Holly Willoughby, Michelle Heaton and Sophie Wessex have backed a scheme to plant a tree for every child in the UK.
The celebs join Anton De Beke, Michelle Heaton and Dominic Cooper in calling for people to donate to the #PlanTree campaign.
And they have all shown off their artistic talents by drawing trees and sharing their handywork on social media - as they ask for just £5 to plant 45 trees at www.plantree.world.
The campaign was dreamed up by husband and wife team Mike and Alison Battle, who run Christmas experience LaplandUK.
They want 12million trees planted to help tackle climate change - with all funds going to Offset Earth, which supports the reforestation of Madagascar.
This Morning host Holly said: "This is all part of Father Christmases’ plan, #PlanTree to plant a child for every single child here in the UK.
"My kids have got involved too, so draw your tree and upload it and let’s see if we can plant a tree for every child in the UK.”
While Sophie, Countess of Wessex, said: “Father Christmas wants us to plant a tree for every child in the UK. Plan Tree: We can do this!”
Celebs who have joined the campaign include Me Before You actor Sam Claflin, GMB presenter Charlotte Hawkins and Guardians of the Galaxy star Laura Haddock.
People who want to get involved are being asked to draw a picture of a tree and share it with the hashtag #PlanTree and link to plantree.world where people can donate.
As a bonus incentive, anyone who donates to plant mangrove trees in Madagascar will be gifted two Christmas e-books: The Untold story of Father Christmas and The Secrets of the Christmas Elves.
Mike said: "For children trees have always been magical. It’s time we fully embrace their magical abilities to combat climate change.
“After 13 years of representing Father Christmas, we feel compelled to use his cultural power and stories to speak up against the threat to our natural world and protect the future for our children.
“We are thankful to have achieved such great support for Father Christmas’ plan to plant a tree for every child in the UK and are grateful that we can all can work together towards protecting the planet.”
