'What a mouthful!'

A WOMAN has divided the internet after revealing she wants to give her baby a double-barrelled surname.

Taking to Mumsnet, a user known only by the pseudonym ‘AshtonBacks’ told the parenting forum that she wants to join her and her partner’s names so neither family moniker will die out.

Asking for advice, she wrote: "WIBU [would it be unreasonable] to give our baby the surname Georgeson-Johns?"

Some contributors were vehemently against the idea.

“I wouldn’t personally”, stated one parent, while another added: “That’s a pretty big mouthful, OP [original post]. I’d reconsider personally.”

“I always see them as a pretentious mix of maiden and the man’s surnames and think what t****,” commented one vocal user. “Sorry no, it sounds daft.”

One mum was not opposed to the idea and said it was down to personal preference.

"Bit of a mouthful but I've heard far worse!" advised one user.

Adding in their support, another added: "To be honest, it's the kind of name (the double barrelled I mean) that I would think for about 30 secs was long and a mouthful and then get over and just get used to it. If you want both, do it."

Others, however, suggested ‘AshtonBacks’ blend the two surnames or even use one as a middle name.

"I think I would go with Johnson as a mix between the 2,” commented one contributor.

Another suggested: "Do you know if the baby is a boy or girl? If it's a boy he could have George as a middle name (Firstname George Johnson).”

Despite all the help, ‘AshtonBacks’ was left baffled and questioned: “How bad is it?"
