Fergie was due to meet with Caixinha at Murray Park today for an informal interview.

The ex-Scotland star is desperate to land the job and return to the club where he had huge success as a player.

And it’s understood he is being heavily touted by influential figures at the club.

Caixinha, though, has been promised he’ll have the final say on who comes in.

Graeme Murty helped out for his first match against Hamilton Accies on Saturday but he's set to remain with the Under-20s.

Striker Kenny Miller is still an outside possibility with the 37 year-old likely to hold discussions with new gaffer Caixinha this week over his future.

Miller is out of contract at the end of the season and is still planning to continue playing, but will consider all his options.

Talks with Brown, though, will come as a surprise to supporters with the former Gers' defender out of football since being sacked as Dundee boss more than three years ago.

Fans favourite Bomber was an extremely passionate and vocal critic of the club’s regime during the Craig Whyte and Charles Green eras.

He’s kept close ties with the current hierarchy and has been recommended to Caixinha as one of the people he should consider for the job.

Meetings with other candidates will take place today and tomorrow with the Portuguese boss expected to make a decision by the end of the week.

Rangers chairman Dave King, meanwhile, will arrive in Scotland on Wednesday for his face-to-face first meeting with Caixinha since he was named as manager.
