But Kennedy, 18, has persuaded bosses is he worth keeping after a loan spell at Inverness.

Kennedy – who made his first team debut for Gers a year ago – was due to be out of contract at the end of the season.

Rangers had been in talks over an extension since the end of 2019 but ended negotiations when his demands exceeded what they were prepared to pay.

But Kennedy – who boss Steven Gerrard has previously spoken highly of - then spent three months with Caley Thistle and netted once in ten appearances.

Their gaffer John Robertson had hoped to keep him for the rest of the season but that now looks a non-starter.

It’s thought Kennedy will head to their Championship rivals Raith instead once the paperwork is completed on his new Ibrox contract.

Meanwhile, Rangers will consider letting shamed Covid duo Jordan Jones and George Edmundson leave on loan this month, according to a report.

GER OUT THE DOOR Rangers ‘could let’ shamed Covid duo Jordan Jones and George Edmundson leave on loan this January

The Gers pair were hit with seven games bans each by the SFA for breaching strict coronavirus guidelines in November.

The duo were caught attending a house party and were immediately suspended by the club for their actions.

The Ibrox club slammed the players for their blatant disregard of the Covid rules, and neither have featured since.

Northern Ireland ace Jones and defender Edmundson are both now free of those suspensions, but could be preparing for their short term futures elsewhere.

The Daily Record say director of football Ross Wilson would consider letting them both go out to get game time with suitable loan moves.
