The 20-year-old has now bagged an impressive nine goals in eight games since his return to Spain.
And his hat-trick feat has carved him a place in the history books of Scottish players.
Harper has become the first Scot to net a hat-trick in Spanish football since Glaswegian George Pattullo netted an incredible 41 goals in 20 games for Barcelona in 1910.
Few Scots have played in Spanish football over the years. Steve Archibald made by far the biggest impact when he helped Barca to their first title to their first La Liga for 11 years in 1985 by netting 16 goals that season.
But despite scoring a couple of doubles, he failed to net that elusive hat-trick.
Few Scots have even played in Spanish football down the years, let along scoring three goals in a game.
Ted McMinn, Alan Hutton have played in La Liga, while Real Madrid's only Scottish player in their entire history was a defender called John Fox Watson, who played a single game for Real in 1948.
Despite Harper's heroics, he is unlikely to ever come close to match the records set by Pattullo in the early days of Barca.
He netted a double hat-trick in 1910 in a 15-1 win against Internacionale and refused to take any payment from the club for his services as a player.
Pattullo had a batter scoring rate than Lionel Messi, is in the Barca Hall of Fame and later won a Military Cross after the Battle of the Somme in the First World War.
