Morton sign Kalvin Orsi as former St Mirren winger crosses derby divide

MORTON have snapped up former St Mirren winger Kalvin Orsi.

The playmaker had most recently been playing his football at Glebe Park with part-timers Brechin City but had been desperate for a way back into full-time.

Cappielow boss David Hopkin is a big admirer of the 22-year-old having watched him torment his Livingston side during their time in the Championship.

And he moved quickly to add Orsi to his squad after earlier announcing Queen of the South midfielder Kyle Jacobs as his first signing as Ton manager.

Speaking to Morton's website, Orsi said: "I’m delighted to sign for Morton and so happy to go back full-time.

“I started out at Aberdeen when I was 12 up until 18 – I moved up there and matured a lot – and then went to St Mirren, where I made my senior debut in a Scottish Cup tie against Spartans.

“With the way things went I thought I actually thought I would get a new contract there, but I was released at the end of the season.

“That’s when I went part-time with Brechin. That was a massive decision for me and something I didn’t know how to feel about at first because I wanted to stay full-time.

“But I felt that it would be more beneficial to go and get as many senior games as I could under my belt, to take one step back to eventually go two forward.

“I’ve spent the last two seasons at Brechin and played 30-odd games in the Championship and that has been massive for my development as a player.

“When David Hopkin got in touch with my agent about me coming to Morton, to get the opportunity to come to such a big club, I almost couldn’t believe it.

“I was desperate to kick on and get back training and playing on a full-time basis. I can’t wait for the challenge.
