Rangers legend Barry Ferguson calls on club to restore Celtic’s full away ticket allocation at Ibrox

The Hoops are set to have just 800 tickets for next month's Old Firm clash but Ferguson insists all former Light Blues stars loved having a full away section at Ibrox

BARRY FERGUSON has called on Rangers to restore Celtic's full ticket allocation for away fans at Ibrox.

The Light Blues legend has said the Old Firm atmosphere could be ruined by the fact there will be just 800 Hoops supporters at the upcoming clash.

His warning comes after Parkhead chief Peter Lawwell admitted he will urge the club's fans to BOYCOTT next month's match - IF their safety cannot be guaranteed.

Ferguson wants to see a return to having more than 7,000 Celtic fans at Ibrox.

And the 40-year-old admitted that his former Rangers team-mates loved seeing that many supporters in the away stand during Old Firm clashes.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer's Football Show, he said: "I played in a lot of Old Firm games at Ibrox and I was just used to having 8,000 Celtic fans there.

"I think it'll ruin the atmosphere, honestly do.

"I think if you ask any Rangers player that's played in those games, that's what it's all about - knowing that stand's full of Celtic fans and you've got three quarters of the stadium.

"I loved the fact that it was like that. It just created a great atmosphere for me.

"And it was the same at Celtic Park when Rangers got about 8,000 as well, so I don't know what's going on there.

"I think they need to sort it and go back to giving them the full stand because I think if you ask any ex-player, or current player, I like to think they would agree with myself and say that's the way it should be."

Rangers confirmed their decision to cut Celtic's away ticket allocation to just 800 back in May.

And they claimed it was due to demand for season tickets following the arrival of Steven Gerrard as manager.

The Hoops reciprocated the gesture by cutting their rivals' away ticket allocation to just 800 for the first Old Firm clash of the season in September, which they won 1-0.
