LOVER'S BABY AGONY

Torment of missing Corrie McKeague’s girlfriend as she reveals she’s pregnant with his child

It's bittersweet news after Corrie vanished in September last year

PREGNANT April Oliver told how the thrill of carrying Corrie McKeague’s baby while struggling with his mystery disappearance has left her racked with guilt.

April, 21, has been struggling with mixed emotions after the shock of finding out she was expecting two weeks after her RAF boyfriend vanished.

And she revealed the agony of dealing with the news alone and being unable to share the joy with airman Corrie, 23, who has not been seen since September.

Shattered April said: “When I found out, it was a really horrible time. I wished I could experience it with him.

“I was also kind of happy it had happened and I was excited.

“But I felt bad for being excited.”

April had dated Corrie, of Dunfermline, for five months when he went missing on a night out with pals — and she hopes going public could help trace him.

She said: “I’ve decided to tell everyone now because I’m at a stage in my pregnancy where I’m happy and slightly more emotionally relaxed as well as anything

“We had had conversations about children and what we wanted in the past.

“It was something I’d hoped he would be here to help me make the decision but unfortunately he isn’t.

“I’ve had to make a massive decision by myself.

“I was hoping and praying that he’d come back so we could make the decision together.”

She also showed off the scan of their tot which is due in late spring or early summer.

April told how she was on holiday in America when she heard Corrie vanished after partying with pals in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

She immediately jetted back to his RAF Honington base nearby.

April, of Norfolk, added: “I was concerned. It was out of character.”

Yesterday the mum-to-be described Corrie, who she met on a dating site, as an “absolute gentleman”.

She went on: “He’s just the sweetest and most outgoing person I’ve ever known.

“There is nothing I would love more than for him to walk through the door and say ‘I’m back’.”

Corrie’s cop mum Nicola Urquhart, 47, also from Dunfermline, said she was experiencing the same emotional rollercoaster.

The family liaison officer, who went with April for her baby scan, said: “It’s incredibly difficult to bounce my head from the excitement of a new baby to what we’re actually trying to focus on — which is finding Corrie.”

The gunner left a nightclub on September 24 and was seen on CCTV meandering along the pavement tucking into his takeaway food.

Later he was caught on camera having a kip in a doorway before getting up and hasn’t been seen since.

His mobile was traced moving 14 miles away but cops think his handset ended up in a bin lorry.

The phone has never been found and police believe Corrie may have got in to a car willingly or unwillingly.

A team of private investigators, paid for by online crowdfunding, began inquiries on behalf of the family to complement the Suffolk Police investigation last Friday.

In an exclusive interview in November, mum Nicola said her life has become a “living hell”.

She said: “What this is doing to my head and heart is indescribable.

“Words genuinely fail me as to how this makes me feel.”

Nicola has spent years helping people in similar circumstances in her police liaison role.

But her world was turned upside down after a call from son Darroch.

She said: “He’d been getting messages from the boys at the base that Corrie was missing.

“I immediately knew that there was a big problem. I tried to call Corrie’s phone but it wasn’t on.

”I was desperate for information. I knew something was horribly wrong straight away.

“For Corrie not to have been in touch and not to have gone back to base when his puppy was there, I knew there was something wrong.”

Nicola added: “The first couple of days were a desperate need to get information on what had happened.

"I knew how important the initial few hours are with a missing persons inquiry. I was trying to get as much information as I could get to then pass on to the police.

“I knew what they needed so they wouldn’t have to waste time.

“The police took it seriously straight away and filled me with confidence that they would find Corrie quickly.”

And last month she told of fears her son is a “social hand grenade” who will expose himself to high risk.

Nicola confessed Corrie is prone to making “reckless decisions”.

Despite extensive appeals, a five-figure reward, a message of support from Hollywood star Tom Hardy and a great response from the local community, there has been no sightings.

But the family are confident they will still get the good news they crave, although Nicola knows others will have their doubts.

She said: “I genuinely think he is still alive. It might sound ridiculous but I do.

“It’s human nature to wish for the best but I’m a practical person.

“Given the information we have, the chances in my mind that he is alive are the same that something untoward has happened.

“To me it’s down the middle whether he comes back alive or not.
