Health chiefs have paid tribute to a caring nurse who has died after testing positive for coronavirus

Fiona Anderson, a community nurse who worked at Grindon Lane Primary Care Centre as part of the city’s Sunderland West team died on Sunday, April 26 after testing positive for Covid-19.

Health chiefs and her family paid tribute to the dedicated worker who spent her life serving the community.

Speaking on behalf of her family, her sister Sarah Anderson said: "We are incredibly proud of Fiona, she died doing what she loved, working for the NHS and caring for those in need.

“Always in our hearts and never forgotten."

Bosses at the Trust said Fiona began working with the organisation in 2007 and has held many different roles since then.

In 2019, she began her latest role, working as a community staff nurse.

He manager Kath Henderson, speaking on behalf of her community nursing colleagues, said: “We are all absolutely devastated that we have lost our valued friend and colleague Fiona.

“There are no words that can describe the loss we are all feeling but we take comfort in knowing just how much Fiona loved her job and how incredibly proud she was to be part of the community team.

“She brought pride and passion to her work every single day and made such an incredible difference in the lives of so many people in South Tyneside and Sunderland.

“We will miss you dearly Fiona and will think of you always.”
