Boss Kenny Jackett insists there is “nothing” in speculation that Portsmouth are targeting Nottingham Forest youngster Ryan Yates.

Pompey have continually been linked with the Reds midfielder this season, with national reports yesterday claiming a move was close.

Jackett previously denied an approach had been made for the 21-year-old, and reiterated that stance today (Thursday) in his pre-match press conference ahead of the League One leaders’ clash with Sunderland.

“No, he’s not one we’ve enquired about,” he told the Portsmouth News.

“Obviously he’s a player we’re aware of, definitely – I would be disappointed if we weren’t aware of all or most players.

“But no, there’s nothing in that.”

The Mirror had stated Yates was edging towards a loan switch to Fratton Park in the January transfer window, which opens in little more than a week’s time.

And it was claimed there was potential for a deal to become permanent if Jackett’s side clinch promotion to the Championship.
